Your Graduation Photography
The Students’ Union has provided an efficient and trusted professional photography service over the past 2 decades. This is the only University approved Graduation Photography and our profits are reinvested into the Union's services for our students.
New for Summer 2019
Whilst we still would like you to visit the SU on your Graduation day (and before/afterwards!) our temporary location in Elmwood Avenue isn’t just quite large enough to facilitate the full photography service!
So we have organised two new studio spaces this Summer which will be located in Elmwood Hall, University Road (opposite the Whitla Hall) and the Peter Froggatt Centre, just beside the garden party area in the Quad.
The Students’ Union will continue to provide our free live streaming of each ceremony in the SU Lounge, First Floor of SU Elmwood (max capacity, 90 per screening).
Can I get my photos taken in advance of my ceremony?
This year we are offering a ‘Gown Collection/pre-Graduation photography’ service at the new Gown Store (South Dining Hall) which will open:

Do I need to order before day of Graduation?
Definitely not! However ordering your photography before your Graduation day will get you direct access to the Photography studios.
Find out ordering details and see the packages available:
Award/Stage Photographs and Class of 2019 merchandise will also be available to view and purchase just outside (weather permitting) or inside the Peter Frogatt Centre – just opposite the Marquees/Garden Party in the Quad.
We have Official Queen’s Graduate ties, along with caps and scrolls which are available at the studio FREE for use in your photo.
Our photographers are experts at putting on those graduate hoods and we also have a photo prep area for checking your hair/make-up before your photo is taken.
Plan ahead and make the most of your day!
We can take your photographs any time during graduation week, it can be a little busy immediately after each ceremony.
The SU Shop in the Students' Union will be selling an exclusive range of Queen’s University Belfast branded clothing - all with 20% off. See Graduation Booklet for details and pick up your 20% off voucher at the Gown store/Graduation Information Point.
Live Streaming of Graduation Ceremonies
We know that it's not always possible for everyone who wants to see the ceremony to get a ticket for Whitla Hall so this year we will be showing a live stream of each ceremony on screens in the Students' Union Lounge so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ceremony in comfort. Maximum capacity is 70 people.
(The video feed is provided via QUB Media Services. Any interruptions in service are beyond the control of the Students’ Union.)
Graduation week essentials from the SU Shop
Located on the ground floor of the Students' Union, the SU Shop will be open throughout graduation selling a wide range of snacks, drinks and other essentials. Don’t forget to pick up your daily copy of the Belfast Telegraph for the graduation listings!
Celebrate at The Speakeasy
During graduation week, The Speakeasy will be open for all to enjoy. We have a wide selection of local and international beverages, including a selection of sparkling wine and Champagne. Alcohol is served from 11.30am. Hot food will be available between 12pm-8pm.
How many tickets do I get?
Each Graduand has the opportunity to purchase up to three guest tickets and four Garden Party tickets (except those from Stranmillis University College, who will be able to purchase up to guest two tickets due to the size of the ceremony). Graduands will not require a ticket for the ceremony but will need a ticket for the Garden Party.
You will be notified if there are additional tickets available after all students have registered.
How do I get my tickets?
Graduands will be emailed their tickets to their Queen's email address, three days prior to the ceremony. You must have made full payment for your tickets to be emailed to you. All tickets will contain a QR code that will be scanned upon entry to the ceremony hall and Garden Party. Students should print their tickets and ensure their guests are in possesion of their own tickets, as graduands and guests will enter Whitla Hall via different entrances and are not seated together.
Where do I get my Gown?
In order to collect your academic costume you must have paid your graduation fee and bring you Graduation Reference Page with you. Gowns can be collected from the South Dining Hall (beside the Whitla Hall). You will be given a specified time to collect your gown depending on the time of your ceremony. This time and date will be detailed on your Graduation Reference Page.
Top Tip: Graduation Information Point will be located in the Marquee next to the South Dining Hall and will be open from 8.30am - 4:30pm every day throughout Graduation.
What if I want additional garden party tickets?
If your friends and family aren't able to join you in the Whitla Hall, they can watch the ceremony live just a few minutes away in the comfort of one of our viewing venues, then join you for a glass of Prosecco at the Garden Party afterwards. Tickets are £10 per adult and children under 12 go free. Tickets include entry to the QFT (10.30am and 2.00pm ceremonies) or the Larmour Theatre (5.00pm ceremonies) to watch the ceremony, access the Garden Party, a glass of Prosecco ortea/coffee, live entertainment and some nibbles.
Get your tickets online here or in person from the QFT box office. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.
