What we stand for
Queen's Students' Union is the representative body of all Queen's Students. We look to provide YOU with a range of student focused services. From the moment you begin your time at Queen's, we hope these services will help to make your time here worthwhile, enjoyable and filled with new experiences. Whether you shake your stuff to our live gigs, laugh your socks off at our comedy nights, or get advice on any of your financial, welfare or housing issues, we want to do everything we can to represent your needs.
To achieve this, we have a core set of aims and obfectives.
These are;
- To promote the general and particular interests of its members and to represent them in all matters affecting their interests to both the University and to persons and bodies outside the University;
- To promote equality of opportunity and a safe and relaxed environment for all its members;
- To support a range of student societies in the University and to provide competitively priced entertainments in a safe environment.
- To represent the interests of its members in the arrangements made for the provision of commercial services,which will be staffed wherever practical by its members, for the benefit of its members;
- To promote unity of spirit among its members and to enhance relations between its members and the members of other institutions of higher education and the entire community;
- To communicate with all other organisations with whom the Union maintains contact for the attainment of these objects;
- To formulate policy and deliver strategy on student matters;
- To raise awareness in relation to issues arising as a result of the Union's representaional role;
- To promote the interests of its members in relation to:
- Freedom from harassment on intimidation;
- Reasonable access to funds/finance in accordance with the Rules;
- The opportunity to participate in Union elections and activities;
- The opportunity of freedom of expression, the right of assembly and association and the right to participate in association (subject in the case of University societies to Chapter 4 of the constituition) and subject to compliance with the law properly relating to the right to freedom of expression and the right to the freedom of peaceful assembly.
